ADDITIVES FOR POLYMERS

The application range, properties, and processing of polymers are drastically improved with additives. Polymers without additives are generally not applicable. By using well-chosen additives it is possible to achieve special properties, improve material properties, and broaden the existing application range.

Research in the area of polymer additives encompasses a broad spectrum, from the synthesis and characterization of new additives and their efficient processing at a small scale all the way to the investigation of the resulting mechanical, optical, and electrical properties. In order to achieve the desired set of properties, we often use concepts from supramolecular chemistry and liquid crystal research when designing molecules.
